THE LITTLE GIRL
The little girl walked by herself
Without shoes, she walked on the dirt
Dirty hands and feet, with old clothes on
Messy hair, sad face, she looked so tired
As she was walking, she saw a half piece of candy
She picked it up, put in her mouth, chewed it slowly
It tasted so good, the candy from the street
She's looking down as she walked, hoped to find another piece
She got home, no food, but the tasteless rice soup
She's hungry, had the soup as her first and last meal
Not a word she complained, she knew the situation
only six, she accepted the complication of life on earth
The little girl soon had a younger brother
She got no more attention, she's free to go out
Alone, bare feet, she walked along the stream
She's thinking and wondering what does life really mean
She got home that night hoping to have some rice
Again, she had to have the tasteless rice soup as her meal
She couldn't swallow the soup, it got stuck in her throat
She then went to bed, cried herself to sleep once more
She's not alone, there're some hundreds of the refugee kids
Living in the camp without education or hope of success
It's common for them to skip a meal or two everyday
I know the story so well because that little girl was me
